The ZEW index is an economic situation index of the Mannheimer of center for European economic research (ZEW). Approximately 400 analysts and institutional investors are asked after their medium-term expectations concerning the economic situation and capital market development.

The ZEW index is considered as indicative to the more prominent ifo The historical average value is at present with 35,7.

The indicator economic situation expectations shows the difference of the positive and negative estimates for the future economic development on view of six months in Germany.

Example

Is if 30 per cent of the inquiring around express takers of the opinion, which will improve economic situation and 40 per cent is the opinion, it will worsen, then a balance for economic situation expectations of -10 results. The portion of those, which count on no change of the economic situation, does not play thereby for the balance a role.
