Zanussi is an Italian manufacturer for electrical household appliances. Since 1984 belong to Zanussi to the Swedish Electrolux company and of it as mark for the lower price segment of the company are used.
Since 1858 can be retraced the society as manufacturers for Terracotta furnaces under the mark "Becchi ". Into the late 1920er years were added wash troughs and
Zanussi of still 18 coworkers employed and was concerned 1945 with the building of wood and herd of coal and - furnaces. 1946 died the old owner of the exempt private company and its son Lino, which had left the school prematurely with 17 years, took over the enterprise as Managing Director. Later Zanussi also butane gas furnaces produced already five years. 1954 were added the production of refrigerators, in order to charge to capacity the factory in the summer months.
The next step, the production of washing machines, was from today's viewpoint being obvious, led the enterprise however nearly to the edge of the ruin. In the second half of the 1960er years began Zanussi with the production of semiautomatic washing machines with double drums, which seemed due to their appearance already outdated, when they came on the market. After 5.000 pieces production was stopped. It let many parts already two years later manufacture with Fiats under license of the US manufacturer Westinghouse. Since the washing machine was much too large and possessed no inserted heating element, it was again a Flopp.
But Lino and its brother Guido Zanussi, which was active as sales directors, could not be discouraged, but strove successfully again to bring their own product on the market. Zanussi had success. Into the early 1970er years and Rex and Naoni the Italian market dominated the busy enterprise already 5,300 of coworkers under the label names. Beside the firm center in Pordenone with Venice further production locations in Italy developed, in which 500,000 refrigerators, 230,000 washing machines, 250,000 furnaces and 50,000 televisions were manufactured annually.
Zanussi created a to a large extent integrated production chain, in also the manufacturing tools, as the electrical welding of the refrigerator housings themselves were designed. Zanussi was one the first Italian manufacturer, that introduced the electrostatic lacquer finish. Many components, also the plastic parts, the forging products, electric motors and transformers originated from own production. Compressors for refrigerators were produced in their own factory in the Austrian prince field.
In the environment of Madrid Zanussi dared its first expansion on a market outside from Italy. After the collapse of roll Razor and Duomatic in Great Britain Zanussi conquered also the there market. Later Zanussi entered into the manufacturing for a German enterprise that the white commodity under its label name drove out. Also the source AG drove out domestic appliances under own name in Germany, to which Zanussi components supplied. Zanussi expanded into the remaining countries of the European community to Africa and Asia. Of kept themselves away Zanussi contested North American market.
Into the late 1980er to years Zanussi with the production of brown commodity, thus to entertainment electronics, came which had taken over Zanussi of AEG Telefunken, like many other competitors, also deeply into the red numbers. In order to save the production of colour television sets in Italy, the national Italian getting thing REL with 49% into the Zanussi enterprise Seleco entered. Also the Olivetti daughter Merloni from Fabriano took part with 5%. When Zanussi came into the 1980er years with a market share of 22% in Italy into a sales crisis and the holding company of the region already taken part Friaul Friulia signaled not to want to take part no more in further capital increases the Electolux group belonging to the Swedish boiling mountain company entered into the earlier exempt private company. The Electroluxgruppe had itself already by important firm purchases in the USA (Tappan, White Consolidated Inc., to which the refrigerator daughter Frigidaire Home Products, Kelvinator belong among other things, Roper, Poulan/Weed Eater, etc.), in Sweden (Graenges, God hard Nilsson), in Great Britain (Thorn EMI) and Germany (Juno, Zanker, progress, AEG domestic appliances etc.) to one the manufacturer of household electrical appliances, leading world-wide, develops. After a capital increase 1986 the family Zanussi separated finally from the enterprise.
The era Electrolux with Zanussi is connected apart from the loss of the independence coined/shaped from always new reorganization efforts with substantial personnel reduction, separating of component manufacturing, sales and/or quiet putting of production locations, reduction of the model pallet and European-wide expansion of the mark Zanussi.
