Wood pests organisms are called, which are due to their biological characteristics able to damage or destroy wood. Certain insect and kinds of mushroom have the by far greatest importance as wood pests. Besides wood under special conditions can be e.g. attacked also by bacteria or Bohrmuscheln.
To the animal wood pests mainly some representatives of the support beetles, like Mulmbock, belong large oak support and longhorn beetle in our widths, or in addition, the common gnawing beetle, better admits wood worm under the designation.
