The wrong Woldemar (or also wrong Waldemar; "† 1356 allegedly in Dessau) were a Hochstapler, who was belehnt 1348 by Karl IVTH with the Mark Brandenburg. He was called allegedly Jakob Rehbock and is Mueller-associated to have been. This and other rumors are however no more than presumptions of some contemporaries and chroniclers. Its true identity is today unsettled until.

In the summer 1348 he introduced himself as older pilgrims to the archbishop of Magdeburg than the old Mark count Woldemar, who one had bestattet 29 years before. It gave, the funeral 1319 had been only produced and it on a Pilgerfahrt had been. After becoming extinct the brandenburgischen Askanier (1320) emperor Ludwig the Bavarian had lent the cure Mark Brandenburg to his own son Ludwig.

This Woldemar won now fast trailers, in particular with the rivals of the Wittelsbacher. It spent itself as a representative of the traditional prince house, the assistance against unpopular strange Bavaria promised. Within weeks it could convince the Marks on a Huldigungszug of itself.

King Karl IV. belehnte Woldemar on 2 October 1348 with the Mark Brandenburg, whereby the Wittelsbacher was pushed ever more into the defensive.

The wrong Woldemar was set off in April 1350 as a cheat, as a Karl it because of a convention with the Wittelsbachern (contracts of Eltville) to only fall left. Woldemar held itself until 1355 in parts of its rule area, before he died 1356 of a natural death. There were rumors that Karl had been IVTH wire-puller of its occurrence, in order to neutralize so the Wittelsbacher as adversaries.

Literary Rezeption

1842 published Willibald Alexis its novel the wrong Woldemar. In most recent time the novel the last Askanier of refuge Bosetzky (Frankfurt 1999) dedicates itself to the events around the wrong Woldemar, whereby the author sets up its own theory regarding the identity of the alleged Askaniers.
