World economy summits take place since 1975 annually. Into being they were brought by Giscard d'Estaing and Helmut Schmidt. Participants of the first meeting on lock Rambouillet were the heads of the government from Italy, Japan, Great Britain and the USA. Since the admission of Canada the summits also G7 were called, and/or after admission of Russia 1994 G8-Gipfel. Russia is however excluded from the financial and currency consultation still. Topics first world economy summits were the oppressive economic problems of the 1970er years, like that

• Collapse of the exchange rate system of Bretton Woods and
• the effects of the first large oil crisis.

With the initially politico-economic questions soon questions with regard to foreign policy associated. The main topics today are the world-wide economic, development and monetary policy. In addition the among other things following world-political questions are discussed: Terrorism, drug and arms traffic, organized criminality, nuclear energy, armed conflicts, environmental protection, unemployment, debt crisis.
