Work designates the result of a purposeful effort per time unit in the economics with certain work quality.

The productivity

The work can be measured as productivity, as far as outputs and inputs are measurable. To note one should here that the productivity is a purely quantitative size. can be compared at the best one within an industry and/or with same activity (homogeneity (equality) of the conditions of work)

Example: Shoemaker company A and B compare its productivity:

  • Shoemaker A manufactures 50 pair of shoes in 5 hours.
  • Shoemaker B manufactures 15 pair of shoes in 1 hour.

Here are the manufactured shoes of the outputs (result of working) and the assigned working hours of the inputs (work input).

Computation of the productivity through:

  • Productivity shoemaker A: 50 pair Schuhe/5 working hours = 10
  • Productivity shoemaker B: 15 pair Schuhe/1 working hour = 15
  • Generally: measured output/measured input
  • Result: The productivity factor is thus with shoemaker A with 10 to regard and with B with 15.

The simple example makes clear, which is not to be seen with very high numbers always at first sight, which enterprise more productively works.

    \ mathrm {Produktivit \ ddot RK \ (achievement)} = \ frac {\ mathrm {outputs}} {\ mathrm {inputs}}

    Economy

A comparison between different industries is however possible with the calculation of production costs:

    • Conversion/labor costs, and/or yield in units of value/employment in values

Example: A shoemaker and an author compare their economy:

    • A shoemaker sells 20 pair of shoes to 50"€ in one hour. It used 60 hours, for which for each 20"€ costs result for the production of the shoes.
    • An author sells his column with 420 sides for 5"€ per side to a publishing house. It used 80 hours, which cost it for each to 40"€ for the production of its column.

    Computation of economy through:

    • Economy shoemaker: 20*50/60*20 corresponds to the factor 0,83
    • Economy author: 420*5/80*40 corresponds to the factor 0,66

Result: The shoemaker worked more economically than the author.

An economically working enterprise will exhibit therefore a factor more largely than 1.0.
