Work planning is a subsection of the operational research (operation Research). The meaning of the term is not clear. It is used for operational planning by workers and resources, for the production planning on the basis by manufacturing drawings and construction plans and for production planning generally, thus for all procedures, which are in the production department of an enterprise of importance. The main meaning is today however on the planning of concrete personal work procedures.

Schedules are manufactured, administered and processed today almost exclusively with EDP support. The trend goes thereby to a ever stronger integration. Those concerns both the interaction with the purchase and the financial and personnel planning, in addition, the integration of all production processes of the enterprise. Software package within this range become as CAP (computers Aided Planning) or more generally CIM (computer Integrated Manufacturing) designates.
