The term of the wood industry summarizes the industriellen of enterprises of the wood working and the wood processing.

Into Germany the wood industry is divided into four prime data areas:

• Furniture
• Buildingnear range: (Elements, prefabricated buildings)
• Wood-based materials industry: (Veneer, plywood, wood fiber and chip board industry)
• Remaining wood industries: (Sawing, plane and impregnation works, packaging and storage vessels, cork, Flecht and basket goods, brooms and brushes)

The most important basic data of the German wood and furniture industry in the year 2003:

• The gross income of the German wood industry amounted to 35.92 billion euro (- 2.2% to 2002).
• The employment figure was with 236.998 employing (- 6.8% to 2002).
• The number of enterprises numbered itself on 2.998 (- 5.2% to 2002).
• Main export countries for the German products were 2003 the Netherlands (765 million euro), Switzerland (576 million euro) and France (521 million euro).
• Most important importing country was Poland with a conversion of 1.59 billion euro (opposite 2002 + 18.1%).
