Wolfgang Sachs (* 1946) studied sociology and catholic theology in Berkeley, Munich and 1971 it locked the Magisterstudium in the subject sociology, 1972 attained it the degree of a diploma theologian. Three years later it attained a doctorate to the Dr. rer. soc.

After activities as a scientific assistant in Berlin (1975-1984), in particular in the research project energy and society (1980-1984) as well as with the Society for internationally development in Rome it was active from 1987 to 1990 Visiting professor to the Pennsylvania State University and from 1990 to 1993 in meals in the center of science North Rhine-Westphalia.

Since 1993 it busy at Wuppertal Institut is and leads there the cross section project "globalization and lastingness" and the Promovierendenkolleg "ecology and Fairness in the world trade regime". Since 1994 he is besides a supervisory board chairman von Greenpeace Germany.

Sachs is member in the club OF Rome.
