Wolfgang Lotz (* 6 January 1921 in Mannheim; "† 13. May 1993 in Munich) was an GermanIsraeli secret agent. Lotz, which accepted the first name Zeev in later years, carried beyond that also the pointed names of the Champagnerspion used by it.

Life

It was born as a son of a theatre manager and a Jewish actress in Germany. After the seizure of power of the Nazis its nut/mother fled 1933 with him into the British mandated territory at that time Palestine, where it became member of the Haganah, a Jewish self protection organization.

During the Second World War Lotz in the British army served. After end of war it was first active as weapon smugglers and stepped after establishment of the State of Israel in the year 1948 as an officer into the service of the Israeli armed forces, where it was enlisted in the year 1956 by the Israeli foreign secret service Mossad.

In the context of an operation of the Mossad Lotz, which had the German nationality, was transferred with the aid the Federal Information Service into the so-called German colony to Egypt, where he was assigned at least by the Mossad tasks of the espionage and execution of terrorist attacks: It should move at that time in Egypt active the German arms specialists, in particular rocket technicians, for the task of their activity, whereby it seized to means such as letter bombs and explosive packages and it came also to deaths.

On 22 February 1965 Lotz was arrested by the Egyptian defense and condemned later by a public security court in Cairo to 25 years hard labour.
