William Victor Keidel (* March 1825 in Hildesheim, Kingdom of Hanover; "† 9 January 1870 in Fredericksburg, Gillespie County, Texas, the USA) Dr. med., was a first physician and first justices of the peace in the texanischen Gillespie County and founder of the locality Pedernales.

Family

He was the son of Dr. Georg Keidel in Hildesheim.

Keidel married the German Einwanderin Albertine Kramer in first marriage (probably around 1851) (* 1830 in Osterode at the resin, Lower Saxony; "† 1. July 1852 in Pedernales, Gillespie County, Texas, USA). It died with the birth of her first child Albert. - A Albertine Kramer (18) was with sister Caroline (24) and nut/mother Christine (54) from Osterode over Bremen with the Brigg "Joh. Dethard" on 15 December 1848 immigrated to Galveston (Texas). Albertines father (or another passenger from Osterode) is not registered on the passenger list; perhaps it was in Texas and the family follow had already let.

In second marriage he married on 16 October 1856 in the Gillespie County Caroline Kott (* 1841 in the duchy Saxonia Gotha; "† August 1865 in Fredericksburg, Gillespie County, Texas), the daughter of the German immigrant Ernst Eduard Gottfried Kott (* 1816) and the Luise NN. (* 1817). It died at the fever after the birth of its son Hermann.

Life

Keidel studied medicine at the University of Goettingen in the years 1841-1845. Equal afterwards he emigrated from Bremen with the Brigg "Margarete "to North America and went on 1 December 1845 in Galveston (Texas) ashore.

Already soon it joined the army of the union and fought in the year 1846 six months in the Mexican-American war. Then it continued to pull after Fredericksburg, where it established itself as a physician, when who had been obligated it probably by "the Mainzer aristocracy association ".

It belonged with the civil engineer Nicolaus zinc (1812-1887) to the signers of the Petition from 15 December 1847, in which the establishment of its own Gillespie Countys was demanded. Actually already in the subsequent year of these County from the Bexar County one separated and one based. In the same year 1848 Keidel was selected to the first justice of the peace of this new Countys.

Soon thereafter it left Fredericksburg however already again, in order to develop with others at the Pedernales River its own settlement. In the year 1850 the settlement Pedernales had 44 inhabitants of German descent, whose unofficial speaker was Keidel.

On 11 September 1854 it invited to a founders' meeting to the establishment of the first school. In addition it created "the Society for Good Fellowship and graduation OF general information ", a political and cultural association.

Likewise 1854 he was selected on a meeting in San Antonio to the vice-president of a country-wide texanischen roof federation of all German associations.

Keidel bepflanzte avenues and did everything for the adornment of the city Pedernales. As a physician it treated white ones equally as Indians, whereby the Indians in material assets paid.

In the year 1865 Keidel with his second wife Caroline and the children pulled back after Fredericksburg. Its wife was heavily gets sick and died there short time later at the fever after the birth of son Hermann.

Keidel remained neutral in the American civil war and supported both sides, the union just like the states.

On 9 January 1870 it died at typhoid fever.
