William Hillebrand (in the USA also William Hillebrand) (* 13 November 1821 in Nieheim, Westphalia; "† 1886 in Heidelberg) were a German physician and Botaniker.

Life

After the study the medicine in Goettingen, Heidelberg and Berlin Hillebrandals physician in Paderborn practiced. Due to an illness it pulled into a milder climate, first to Australia and then on the Philippines, where it likewise practiced as a physician. It continued to pull to San Francisco and 1850 after Hawaii. It worked also here first as a physician, later also in the medical society, in an immigration commission as well as in a botanischen society. In this function he collected plants and discovered 250 new kinds.

it in Cambridge, Massachusetts lived 1871-1872, in order to finish at the there university its work over the Flora and plants on Hawaii.

It in honours a kind of begonia on Hawaii with the names Hillebrandia was designated.

William Hillebrand was the father of William Francis Hillebrand.
