The William Heckel GmbH is one of the oldest workshops for building of woodwind instruments in Germany. It has its seat in Wiesbaden Biebrich and manufactures today bassoons, retort bassoons and the Heckelphone developed by the company.

History

1831 created the instrument farmer Johann Adam Heckel, whose family originated from the music angle in the Vogtland, together with the yard musician at the Biebricher yard Carl the company of and HECKEL. 1845 received J.A. Heckel the title of herzoglich nassauischer Hofinstumentenmacher, 1887 died it and the company by his son William Hermann Heckel in WILLIAM HECKEL BIEBRICH were renamed. Innovations

During its work on the Meistersingern Richard was Wagner among other things in Biebrich and energized with Heckel the development of an oboe in Baritonlage, which should complete the family of the double tube instruments in each register. The Heckelphon developed thereby did not become the usual orchestral instrument, but Wagner, Richard bunch and other one used it for special sound effects gladly.
