William dear Tilesius of Tilenau (* 17. July 1769 in "† 17. May 1857 in was a natural scientist and physician, outstanding draughtsman and Kupferstecher.

It studied starting from 1790 natural sciences and medicine in Leipzig and took at the same time indication instruction with Adam Friedrich Oeser at the academy of arts in the polarizing eating castle. It completed the of the arts 1895, attained a doctorate 1797 to the Dr. phil., and 1801 to the doctor of the medicine. Starting from 1796 it accompanied research expeditions as scientist and a draughtsman. After futile applications in Leipzig it was appointed 1803 as the professor to Moscow State University.

It accompanied the first Russian Weltumsegelung 1803-1806 under Adam Johann of Krusenstern as sea zoologist and an expedition draughtsman. Its book of pictures to the expedition report appeared 1814.

Contrary to its famous contemporary Alexander of Humboldt achieved Tilesius only little public acknowledgment. Not until today its deduction, which is in the possession of the University of Leipzig, is made again accessible.
