William Abel (* 25 August 1904 in "† 27 April 1985 in Goettingen) was a German restaurant historian.

As pupils of the Kieler agrarian economist August Skalweit (1879-1960) and first director 1964 created of institute for economics and social history busy Abel itself particularly with questions of agrarian history and - politics, the rural social politics and the handicraft politics. Beside its extensive and fundamental work to agrarian history the science of history Abel owes crucial impulses in the study of the late Middle Ages and handicraft history as well as a new interpretation of the Pauperismus and its causes. In addition Abel is considered as one the founder of the quantitative method in the economiceconomics research. To his pupils walter Achilles, Friedrich William Henning and Karl Heinrich Kaufhold belongs.
