Willem Johan Kolff (* 14 February 1911 in suffering) is a Netherlands internalist. Is by the invention of an artificial kidney and its lifelong work on different artificial organs he admits become. Willem Kolff lives and works since 1950 in the United States.

Life

Willem Kolff was born in suffering, where its father was a physician. When its father became director/conductor of a sanatorium for Tuberkulose patient, he pulled with six years after Beekbergen. Willem studied medicine in suffering. During the Second World War it began training as the internalists in Groningen. In the city hospital in Kampen it developed the basis for modern dialysis with a drum-shaped artificial kidney. Kolff hid its invention before the German Besatzern in a coal cellar, so that these not actually tore her. In the autumn 1945 at 16 futile attempts in Kampen the break-through succeeded to it: A female patient, who had been in-supplied with acute kidney failure to the hospital, was dialysiert by Kolff one week long with before the drum kidney developed by it in the years and could later with normal kidney function will again dismiss. 1950 emigrated Willem Kolff into the United States. It is divorced from his Mrs. Janke, and in the meantime it fights with deafness and Sehbehinderung. It is however still active and busily to develop an art heart.

Kolff got 1986 the Japan price. On the list De Grootste Nederlander it occupied 2004 place 47. On 15 November 2005 he was selected to the "largest Overijsseler of all times". In the province Overijssel is appropriate for Kampen, where Kolff made its invention. He is honour citizen of Kampen.
