The content Lifecycle describes the life phases of contents of a document. These construct themselves as follows:

Contents provide

In this phase the authors provide the different objects (Assets) of those the later side to consist are. That texts can be, in addition, diagrams, videos or other medium formats. We call this the "content". With the production of the CONTENTS one uses also the purposeful search after existing information. It is to be therefore analyzed which are most frequently used sources of information. Contained with these sources of information are also own archives and own publications (here: Publications of the enterprise/institute). Another source for the production of contents is the use from offers to the content Syndication.

Control and release

In this phase the before provided content is examined for contentwise and formative correctness (e.g. with pictures) (also quality assurance called). This is done in the simple case via the creator of the CONTENTS; typically however is here the introduction of a hierarchy, in which then the examination must take place via or several according to authorized coworker (editors). With only an examining editor one speaks of the 4-Augen-Konzept: Only if contents by 2 persons (here: Editor and author), the side was accepted can be passed on for publication. If the examination precipitates negatively, the content is handed back to the author for rework.

Publish

After a document was released, it is portiert in this phase into the desired format and stored under a fixed address. The substantial step in this phase lies in the fact that contents are made readable for the public now. Depending upon kind of the technology of the publication and the used management system this phase is complex: During a publication in the WWW it does not hand to generate however a new web page and to put these down somewhere on the Web server; References must be set at least by the index of the Website, the individual parts of the web page, which consist beside the pure (HTML) text of pictures and other objects, must be stored and the rights of access be set in such a way that the target audience can read the new web page.

If one as an author or editor uses a Web editor, like e.g. Microsoft Frontpage or Macromedia Dreamweaver, for the publication of a HTML side only many of the tasks marked out above are mastered by Site management functions. However these functions are not sufficient by far, in order complex Websites, which consist of several thousands to millions objects and need special control and release cycles to administer. This task can be carried out only with support the publishing of an editorship system, a Web content management system or a Enterprise content management system, data base-supported by Freigabeworkflows and.

Archive

Since information becomes outdated, it must be guaranteed that these are archived automatically after a fixed time or supplied however to a processing. Just like when publishing it must be ensured when archiving that contents are also later still accessible for search purposes. This is e.g. essential for legally obligatory contents. At the same time, and this is one of the most important points during archiving, is to be made certain that existing references from still current sides are not made invalid by archiving, and/or to an error leads.

With smaller enterprises or institutes pure archiving does not play a large role, so that the sides are not deleted perhaps secured, but. This happened also with the traditional Webpublishing, in many cases later than large error proved to what: Through the deletion knowledge was lost, even if this becomes outdated at the time of the deletion as and appears unimportant. But straight in the area of the scientific publications is a review on old publications of of great importance and importance for the adherence to (nature) the scientific method. Over the web page if business drink actions are completed (electronic trade), then the transaction data are to be archived, to be represented there them according to commercial law (GoBS) or according to tax law (GDPdU) relevant original data. A further aspect, which stresses the importance of archives, is the "face keeping" of an enterprise also here in case of an emergency. The image damage due to a hacker break-down with that is damaged the Internet appearance, can be kept small by bringing a baking UP safety device in.
