Warehouse management systems, briefly WMS, are software-based systems for the business administration of Warenlagern and distribution centers.

Not only the camp position is administered by articles in automatic warehouses, small container camps or hand camps, but also the supply (order - supply comparison, item stock care) and the dispatch (customer master care, supply - order comparison, printing delivery notes, arrangement in the camp for the dispatch).

Apart from the pure camp and dispatch information within a camp in a WMS the commissioning from goods is realized to positions ready for dispatch. In order to ensure the movement of the goods within a camp, a WCS (Warehouse control system) is a component of a WMS. A WCS guarantees that the desired commodity comes over internal conveyor plants (stock pile in an automatic warehouse, job of a Kommisionierers, dispatch chute in the goods despatched) to the position, which intended the WMS for the commodity.

With stock management software, logistics software, Intralogistiksoftware or also Warehouse management systems the complete in-plant flow of material can be illustrated. In-plant flow of material all stock movements accomplished in an enterprise are called. In addition processes of the incoming goods, storage, relocating, pagings and dispatch count. Between the flow of material as well as the information flow one differentiates. With the flow of material it goes around the physical collection of the material in the camp. The camp processes are accompanied by the information flow. This provides during transport for data security and inventory transparency.
