The Wannenmacherei is a special form of the Korbflechterei. The Wannenmacher twisted during the bloom time this trade in 18. Century flat of baskets, in which the grain was high-thrown, so that the wind could separate "the chaff from wheat".

The production of these "tubs" was very work and time-intensively. Even an experienced master needed nearly one working day for the completion of his work. The working groups active in family businesses had to manufacture for guaranteeing their living costs between 300 and 500 tubs in the year. One of the centers of the "tubs" - production lay around 1750 in Emsdetten, where in those years up to 30.000 pieces of around 100 family businesses one manufactured. This meant also that half of the number of inhabitants was dependent on that handicraft Emsdettens.
