The walter building AG was one of the large German building companies.

The enterprise became 1962 by Augsburger the building contractor Professor Dr. h.c. Ignaz walter based.

• 1978 assumption of the majority of the portions of the Thosti AG by Professor Dr. h.c. Ignaz walter
• 1982 assumption of the Boswau + Knauer AG, Duesseldorf by the Thosti AG
• 1983 fusion of the Thosti AG and the Boswau + Knauer AG to walter the Thosti Boswau (WTB), Augsburg
• 1988 assumption of the Heilit + Woerner building AG, establishment of the BS construction equipment service GmbH
• 1991 Umfirmierung the walter Thosti Boswau in walter building corporation, Augsburg
• 1992 assumption of the stock majority of the DYWIDAG by the walter participation and real estates AG Augsburg, together with OD. AG Stuttgart
• The walter building AG goes to the stock exchange
• 2000 fusion the walter building AG with the Heilit + Woerner building AG
• 2001 fusion the walter building AG with DYWIDAG, market appearance as a "walter building AG combine with DYWIDAG".
• 2004 attempt of the fusion with the AG

On 1 February 2005 those placed the request for opening of the insolvency procedure to walter building AG with the district court Augsburg. Further insolvency requests were placed on 4 February 2005 for eleven subsidiaries. At the end the building company became victim of a missed of its name giver.

The enterprise STRABAG took over the again-created DYWIDAG getting thing GmbH on 1 April 2005 and guaranteed so the continuation of a core range of the enterprise. Of the 6800 places the walter 800 remains building AG for the time being.

The insolvency procedure was opened on 1 April 2005. For the insolvency manager chartered accoutant Werner cutter, SKP partner company, was intended new Ulm. The first creditors' meeting took place in June 2005.

The international building company was in all building ranges actively in particular in the building of ready for occupancy, civil engineering, linking up and Geotechnik, traffic engineering as well as in the project development active. The company busy world-wide approximately 9,367 coworkers, of it 6,888 in Germany, and obtained 2004 building works and supplies of 3,283 billion euro. This strong concentration on the difficult German building market is seen as one of the causes for the insolvency of the company.
