Walt Whitman Rostow (* 7 October 1916 in New York town center; "Â 13 February 2003 in Austin, Texas) was an US-American economist, restaurant economics and from 1960 to 1969 cabinet member of the USA.
Walt Whitman Rostow is born 1916 as a child of the Russian immigrants Viktor Aaron and Lillian Rostow in New York. At the age of 15 years it completes 1932 the High School exam in new Haven and receives a scholarship for the study of the political economy and history in Yale. In the year 1936 Rostow receives the renowned Rhodes scholarship, which makes possible for him to study from 1936 to 1938 in Oxford. It attains a doctorate 1940 in Yale with its thesis British trade Fluctuations, 1868-1896. Whereupon Rostow informs for one year economic science to the Columbia University.
After the entrance of the USA into the Second World War Rostow becomes 1941 member of the Office OF Strategic services under William Donovan. After the war he teaches from 1946 to 1947 as Harmsworth professor for American history in Oxford. In the following years Rostow teaches to the Columbia University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (WITH).
1958 become Rostow the speech writer of president Dwight D. Eisenhower. 1960 appoint John F. Kennedy it into its election campaign team. After Kennedys choice lays down Rostow its work to ALSO and works as a security advisor, later in the State Department than directors/conductors of the political planning staff. After the murder Kennedy in November 1963 it continues this work under the new president Lyndon B. Johnson. At the beginning of of 1966 becomes Rostow the national security advisor and keeps this office by January 1969. With the choice of Richard Nixon 1969 to the president of the United States Rostow from the policy separates.
Since the WITH refuses it a return to its old chair, he accepts a place to the Lyndon B. Johnson School OF Public Affairs at the University OF Texas in Austin as a junior professor Emeritus. There it informs economics and history up to its death 2003.
