Villeroy & Boch AG (dt. [], frz. []) or Villeroy & Boch (V&B) a manufacturer of ceramic(s) goods, that has its head office in Mettlach (Saarland, is short). It is designated after its founders Boch and Nicolas Villeroy. The enterprise still is also after over 250 years in family estate.
1748 began Boch, whose actual occupation was iron caster, with the assistance of its three sons, in Lorraine with the production of ceramic(s) goods, in particular table-ware. By the high demand of these goods the enterprise 1767 could expand and began close of the fortress Luxembourg under the name Jean Boch et with the series production of ceramic(s). Three years later, the Brindille decoration, which is sold with interruption until today, originated in to 1770 in 20. Jh. under the name "Vieux Luxembourg".
1791, as which enterprise was successful meanwhile beyond Lorraine (among other things in the Saargebiet and in Luxembourg), created Nicolas Villeroy in Vaudrevange a Steingutfabrik. Both entrepreneurs work first against each other, since it succeeded to Nicolas Villeroy to print the porcelain on with copper passes which meant an enormous progress in series production and thus also competitive power with the enterprise Boch.
1801 bought Jean Boch a former abbey of the in Mettlach to the Saar. In their for the time at that time an ultramodern, mechanized table-ware factory was opened. This was passed on also by its sons: Pierre Joseph Boch created 1812 in Septfontaines (Luxembourg) the Antonius which offered progressive social security benefits, which went still beyond the social laws of Bismarck (70 years later to the workers). Villeroy and Boch extended their market and exported to France, into Switzerland, to Poland (at that time German national territory) and to England.
In the fifties 19. Villeroy and Boch became also world-wide more popular thereby: One sold the goods in completely Europe, exported to North America and partially to South America.
