The Viennese chess newspaper was a German-language important monthly chess magazine appearing in Vienna, which was published last 1949.

In the year 1855 Ernst Falkbeer created the magazine. Under its editorship it could exist however only 9 months. Only 1887 experienced it a short Wiedergeburt - she was reset 1888. Also this time only nine numbers appeared.

1898 created the editors Hugo (1851-1930) again, Alexander Halprin (1868-1921) and George Marco the newspaper. This time she experienced a long duration and achieved large popularity under the chess newspapers of the time at that time. 1916 adjusted Marco the newspaper due to the economic difficulties due to the First World War. 1923 appeared it again, this time under the name new one Viennese chess newspaper, but one year later again under the original name. Since 1926 were Albert Becker main editor, who could induce considerable master players and theoreticians to the cooperation, for example Dr.Jacques Hannak (1892-1974). The connection of Austria at Nazi Germany let the newspaper 1938 be received.
