Swiss company Victorinox is oldest and manufacturers of Swiss measurers, only since the assumption of Wenger. The name is a luggage word after the nut/mother of the founder Victoria and the stainless INOX steel.

The company originating from Ibach (sp) was created 1884 by Karl Elsener and busily approximately 1,000 coworkers at its main location in Ibach. History

Later the production of clothes, luggage items and clocks followed (starting from 1999 in an own Uhrenfabrik). That the enterprise also in 21. Century the ideas did not go out, proved Victorinox with the introduction on the market of SWISSMEMORY, a combination of Taschenmesser and USB stick. And this trend continues. End of the yearly 2005 came s.beat, the Taschenmesser with inserted MP3-Player with 1 or 2 GB storage capacity on the market. 2006 are to follow a model with 4 GB.

Supplier

In order to avoid mistakes with imitations, the designations Swiss measurer and Swiss officer measurer, as well as the typical Swiss cross were protected, for the use on Taschenmessern. When official suppliers of Swiss army may only use Swiss companies Victorinox and Wenger these designations, and/or the Swiss cross, for the marketing of their measurers.

On 26 April 2005 Victorinox took over the fastened competitor Wenger. Thus it was on the one hand prevented that Wenger is sold abroad, and thus the use of the protected brand names would have been reserved no longer only Swiss enterprises. On the other hand thereby also the position in the market was continued to strengthen around Taschenmesser. Together the manufacturers Victorinox and Wenger produce annually over 25 million measurer.

Products

Per day approximately 100,000 measurers are manufactured, beside well-known Swiss measurers also household measurer and occupation measurer. Under label name the Victorinox in the meantime clocks, shears, luggage and dresses are offered.
