Paul Victor von Bruns (also Viktor) (* 9 August 1812 in Helmstedt; "† 19. March 1883 in was a German surgeon. His son Paul von Bruns was likewise a surgeon.

Bruns studied Berlin starting from 1831 in Braunschweig, resounds and, established themselves 1837 in Braunschweig as a physician, taught starting from the year 1839 the subject anatomy and wrote its text book "of general anatomy ". Bruns turned excluding the surgery and 1843 as a professor of the surgery to was appointed. Here it worked year until 1882 and died in the following.

Bruns worked in all areas of the surgery, it worked within the range of the plastic surgery. It obtained special successes in the lip and cheek reconstruction and as a specialist for laryngeal diseases. This brought in a good reputation going far beyond of Germany borders for it. Bruns is after-said a safe technology in the use of the laryngeal mirror, whose application he perfected. Bruns prepared the way for the Wundbehandlung. The production of absorbent surgical wool from cotton succeeded to it by defatting and bleaching. 1868 were appointed Bruns the honour citizen of the city
