The VARTA AG is a steeped in tradition German battery company. Besides VARTA is also label name for goods, which from at present or in former times to the company belonging companies are manufactured or driven out. In addition belong for example accumulators, batteries and flashlights. Admits is the name also by the appearing annual VARTA hotel and restaurant leaders.

History of the VARTA AG

The today's VARTA (selling, loading, repair of transportable accumulators) accepted the first industrielle accumulator manufacturing of Germany in the year 1888 under the company name of "shrubs & Mueller" (since 1889 "Mueller & Einbeck") to Hagen.

1890 were converted the "Accumulatoren factory of Tudor system Mueller & Einbeck" by capital aide of the two firms of world-wide reputation Siemens & Halske and AEG (general society) into the corporation depr. (Accumulatoren factory corporation).

In the year 1904 took place under Quandt the establishment of the VARTA GmbH as daughter and marketing company of the depr., which took up 1905 to Berlin upper beautiful pasture the manufacturing of small transportable lead-acid batteries.

There itself in the decades after that 2. World war the name VARTA as mark and quality term always continued to intersperse, decided the general meeting of the company in the year 1962 to rename the depr. in VARTA corporation.

At the end of of 2000 became the GOPLA, a holding company of the German bank, after a public assumption offer principal shareholder of the VARTA AG. In the future the company was restructured and smashed finally. 2001 were separated the division Microbatterien, the developed VARTA Microbattery GmbH are a subsidiary of the VARTA AG Hanover. 2002 were sold the car battery section to the US-American enterprise Johnson control. In the same year the division commercial batteries was brought in into a joint undertaking under guidance of the US-American Rayovac corporation. Besides subsidiaries and participation were abroad sold. 2004 were sold the participation in the Microlite S.A., to a Brazilian equipment battery manufacturer, to the Rayovac corporation.
