By a vacation home (FeWo) one understands generally a dwelling, in which guests can spend their vacation against payment for a certain period. Normally a vacation home is operated exclusively for the temporary letting to guests.

Vacation homes are usually equipped with their own sanitary area with shower/bath tub and WC, a simple Kochnische and/or a completely furnished kitchen as well as one or more sleep areas. Many vacation homes have besides a balcony or a terrace.

Vacation homes can be as final unit the part of a normal house, i.e. the guest lives with the landlord in the same house. In addition, a vacation home can be part of a holiday area and/or be accommodated in a building with other vacation homes.

In many vacation regions the letting takes place from vacation homes only wochenweise, whereby as a journey day Saturday is often considered. To the normal cost of renting per day can come also further additional expenses for final purification, water and river or bedlinen and towels. The letting can be made by a tour operator, a travel agency or directly with the landlord. During the switching of vacation homes can be helpful also tourist boards, which bring current accommodation listings out annually for their region, as well as special employment agencies. Also one load minute of reservation of vacation homes is meanwhile possible.

Ever more frequently accommodations of the Parahotellerie are obtained over independent Web listings. These brought prospective customers and private landlords together on direct way. Thus the number of beds of the Parahotellerie exceeds those of the hotels clearly and leads therefore also to the new marketing forms without the way across the classical travel agency e.g. in Switzerland.

For some years a trend is to be observed, in which several holiday-makers rent a vacation home together and create a group house. This has on the one hand naturally cost reasons, on the other hand in addition, sociological aspects.

The German tourism federation registered association uses the term vacation home both and definition for a mode of operation of a holidays accommodation and as definition for a kind of room.
