Urgency is the necessity to settle an important action at short notice thus (temporal) the priority. The urgency can follow from a subjective estimate or be based on objective conditions.

Urgencies are directed toward (relative) the short term future. Urgency can exist for example for the rescue of persons, protection from dangers, safety device of articles or values.

If several urgent tasks compete with one another or in contradiction, because too few resources are there, an evaluation must be made and a sequence be specified (for example in mass accidents). The protection or the rescue of human life is as more urgent and more important to classify than the safety device of objects of value, if simultaneous action is necessary.

The urgency is based on the fact that after a certain time changes occur, which mean (usually drastic) a degradation of the existing condition.

If no possibility for meaningful acting exists, then acting is also not urgent. Sometimes however the difference is not to be recognized.
