The contract to the union Economique Belgo Luxembourgeoise was signed 1921 by Belgium and Luxembourg and came into force 1922. This economic union contains different contracts as a goal the economic co-operation of the two countries has. The contracts contain to a large extent common excise duties and the Belgian-of Luxembourg currency association (up to the introduction of the euro 2002). The contract was renewed 1972, 1982, 1992 and 2002.
