A traffic group is a legal and organizational union of regional administrative bodies, in Germany thus districts or circle-free cities as well as the transport enterprises of a region for the common and co-ordinated execution of the public local passenger traffic.

The traffic group as an organizational unit further tasks can be transferred e.g. in the range planning, coordination and service of the subjects of function and transport enterprises involved.
At a traffic community it concerns in contrast to a traffic group a co-operation of the transport enterprises involved.
A tariff group or a tariff community guarantees only a uniform tariff.
To all kinds of the unions in the it applies in principle that in a region in the local passenger traffic at least all means of transport, also from different operators to the same tariff, can be used thus with only one ticket. The traffic area is mostly arranged in addition into wage areas, honeycombs or zones so mentioned. The price of transportation is then no longer distance dependent, but orients themselves at the number of the durchfahrenen wage areas.
