The trade union of the police (Union of Police) is beside the German police trade union (DPolG) and the federation of German Kriminalbeamter (BDK) a trade union with seat in Berlin. The two federal offices are in Berlin and Hilden.

Organization

The trade union of the police (Union of Police) was created on 14 September 1950 in Hamburg on federal level. Came out it from the community of interests the police officer federation in the British zone and West Berlin, itself supraregional from different police combinations to 16. March 1950 united.

The Union of Police is open to all police persons employed (police women and policemen, execution woman officials and execution officials of the tariff, civil servant and tariff person employed) to the membership. As the member-strongest occupation agency organize it approximately 185,000 members. Within the Union of Police so-called person's groups represent specific interests of women, seniors and young police persons employed.

Since 1 April 1978 the Union of Police belongs to the German trade union federation.

On European level the Union of Police is in the international combination of the police trade unions a euro copilot, who represents European Conferation OF policy. Euro copilot president is Heinz Kiefer, member of the acting Union of Police Federal Administration.

Goals and contents

The trade union of the police represents the vocational, social, economic, ecological, social and cultural interests of the persons employed and formerly persons employed of the police. It erstrebt in particular improvements of the general work and living conditions as well as the official and industrial law.

It takes part also in social and political discussions. Important topics are among other things: Kriminalpolitik, criminality causes, traffic policy, development of the criminal law, organization and tasks of the police and the police basic and advanced training.

The goals of the Union of Police are to be achieved by effect on the legislation, conclusion of collective agreements, negotiations with authorities and, to the extent necessary, by application of unionized weapons. She takes part in the elections to the Personalvertretungen and supports the personnel councils with the fulfilment of her tasks. The magazine "German police" appears monthly in the publishing house German police literature tied up to the trade union.

Newest project of the Union of Police is the restructuring of the federal customs administration into a "federal financial police".

The Union of Police calls itself as independent of governments, administrations, political parties and religious communities.

Beside the Union of Police it gives still further trade unions within the range to the police, i.e. the German police trade union (DPolG) in the German civil service association (National Union of Civil Servants), the federation of German Kriminalbeamter (BDK).
