A time window is a time contingent for a certain event the available (maximally available length of time).

Time windows exist in all ranges and situations. The term becomes so v.a. in the technology and related in the marketing and management (work, project and task time).

One calls the event, with which the float becomes grenzwertig, time-critical event. Thereby so-called time pressure develops. The efforts for the completion of this critical path must be forced thus.

Time windows play a large role with project engineerings, because each subproject is dependent on other completed subprojects mostly. By the definition of the time windows only a forecast for the completion of a project can take place. With time windows therefore a time buffer is always taken into consideration (that period, that is actually necessary plus the period, which functions as security reserve). If a time window is crossed, it can come to delays in the wake. In certain ranges, for example in the technology is besides a system crash, a misfortune or the entrance of chaos reactions in the sense of the chaos theory possible.

Time windows play a central role in the critical path method.

From knappe time window results to employees in the working life time pressure, intentionally under time pressure is partly set. For the employer an increase of the productivity results. Starting from a certain time pressure develop stress and errors).

Examples

  • A time window from 75 years stands for a German man to the order to the life in the arithmetic means (life expectancy).
  • At a production line a time window is granted to a station from 25 seconds to the fulfilment of a task afterwards at a workpiece, carried on it (whereby it is insignificant for transport whether the task was fulfilled)
  • For an expedition in a deserted area is a time window for the provisions to consider (the period, for which the provisions would be sufficient maximally).
  • With the a nut/mother of seeds there is the time window, in which she can become more schwanger predominantly without risk.
  • A further example is in the signal analysis, where a Zeitsignal is divided and processed to the digital collection into individual time windows.
