Scientific name
Hericium of coralloides
(Scop.) Pers.

The prick beard (Hericium of coralloides) is regarded as one of the most beautiful kinds of mushroom and is selected of the German society for Mykologie to the mushroom of the yearly 2006.

Prick beards are a relatively small group of mushrooms, with which the mushroom head carries its Sporen on a Hymenium, for a situation of "nut/mother cells ", which lies outside of the tooth-like burrs. These burrs can grow either from the side of the landlord (as with Hericium of coralloides) or from the lower surface of the cap as with the roll gleaning mushroom (Hydnum repandum).

Most prick mushrooms are hard and ungeniessbar, with few exceptions like the roll gleaning mushroom, which is related to the prick beard also not at all. First are often regarded as easily recognizable edible mushrooms. This mushroom can remain hanging with insufficient footwear when moving on the socks and in rare cases to light mechanical injuries lead.
