A threshing machine is agricultural equipment to Ausdre of grain fruits, in particular from grain. Threshing machines are today no more in the use, it in Germany into the 1950ern by the combine were displaced. There were stationary and mobile threshing machines. The machines were usually propelled over drive belts by a tractor.

  • The first useful threshing machine (Schlagleistendre) builds 1786 the Scottish mechanical engineer Andrew Meikle, possibly on the basis of earlier drafts.
  • 1831 the American Samuel Turner invents that Stiftdre
  • 1834 the American brothers Pitt builds for the first time a machine, in which Drusch and grain cleaning take place.
  • 1929 are presented of the Heinrich Lanz AG hergerstellte steel Lanz: the first threshing machine in complete steel construction method.

A problem for the threshing machine was from the beginning the drive. For a perfect work a drum number of revolutions of approx. 1000 revolutions per minute is necessary. With it the threshing machine could become generally accepted only, when the power supply units necessary for it were available. This were first then steam engine, later, at the beginning 20. Century burn and/or electric motors or tractors.

In Germany had threshing machines in the first half 20. Century their largest spreading.

The ears, Schoten, caps etc. are between a high-speed drum and a being certain, the drum partly enclosing basket by impact or friction. One differentiates between:

  • Schlagleistendre and
  • Stiftendre

With Schlagleistendreschern the drum extent is provided with serrated borders and the basket with smooth, sharp edged borders. The grain is struck by the borders on the rasp-bar cylinder from the ears. Since the sheaves are inserted parallel to the drum, one calls that Schlagleistendre also Breitdrescher. This technology still finds with the today's combines application.

With Stiftendreschern the pins of the drum between the pins of the basket run. The distance of the basket is adjustable thereby. He worked more effectively, damaged however to larger extent the grains. There the sheaves of the rectangular drum to be supplied one calls that Stiftdre also Langdre.

Both are common that by so-called shakers, filters and/or blowers the grains of straw, strew and waste are separated. Machines 20. Century were provided also with Strohpresse and bag jack. Be enough roughly, short straw, sand and weeds left in such a way on separate way the threshing machine, while the grains were sagged after distance of the Grannen and cleaning and partly also assortment.

For oil fruits, leguminous plants and corn also special devices were manufactured.

A village community often availed itself of only one threshing machine, which at harvesting in each case farmer was rented. To the Erntezeit it was then nonstop in the use. For the filling of the threshing machine with sheaves, sagging the grain, removing and loading the out-threshed straw etc. approx. 10 persons were necessary.
