Thomas Sydenham (* 10 September 1624 in Wynford Eagle with Dorchester, Dorset; "† 29 December 1689 in London) was an English physician. It is called also "English Hippokrates ".

Sydenham put among other things a set of classical descriptions of infections pre including for the first time the 1686 and also Chorea designated described by it after it minor - and concerned themselves also with neurological and psychiatric diseases like the epilepsy and the hysteria. 1666 it published its Hauptwerk Methodeus curandi febres. Starting from the 3. Edition 1676 appeared it under the title Observationes medicae. With respect to its work of 1683 it differentiated for the first time between Rheumatismus and charge.
