General definition

The theory Z, also "Japanese management style "mentioned, became of William Ouchi, in its book of 1981 "Theory Z: How American management CAN meet in Japanese challenge "develops. Thus it is not extension of the theories X and Y von Douglas McGregor. Ouchi was concerned with three kinds of organizations. Type A it calls the American and type J is the Japanese enterprises up. The type Z possesses a new culture, i.e. the culture Z. this management theory assumes that a strong holding of shares by employees leads to higher productivity.

Characteristics of the theory Z

The type Z is characterized through:

  • minimum fluctuation and lifelong occupation
  • decision making takes place collectively and by agreement, whereby the interests of all members flow
  • important are also the individual assumptionassumption assumption of the coworkers and the performance review
  • the transport in long cycles and a career in different departments becomes effected from coworkers via "winding ring around "- principle makes possible
  • no formalized behavior rules given
  • in the organization an holistic relations structure is present, because interpersonale relations for the enterprise is of great importance.
