The magazine is a fastidious maintenance magazine with emphasis culture and way of life, which admit mainly in East Germany are.

The magazine appears since January 1954 monthly in the GDR publishing house new Berlin, since then in the citizen of Berlin publishing house.

Contentwise mix ordered from literature, mode, reports, feuilleton and erotism. Briefly before the case of wall the magazine reached an edition of approximately 560,000 copies, however it was only difficult to date in the GDR very desired and therefore as bending commodity to get. Regularly stopped erotischen stories and act photographies were unique under the GDR printed media, and represented the special attraction of this magazine. The again "the magazine" - publishing house company took over two years later the magazine and returned partly again to the proven concept, had however at the beginning of of 2002 insolvency to announce.

Since 2002 the magazine in side streets the publishing house appears and enjoys, still particularly in East Germany, high popularity. The edition amounts to at present about 50,000 copies.

The magazine is one of the few GDR magazines, which still appear also after the reunification.

In recent time it appoints itself to the tradition with a magazine of the same name published by F.W. Koebner from 1924 to 1941 as well as in the Federal Republic 1949 to 1951. Between both sheets contentwise similarities, but no verlegerischer connection exist.
