The Macallan is a Whiskybrennerei in Easter Elchies, Craigellachie, Banffshire, Scotland, Great Britain.
Been because of the bank of the Spey, it was one of the first legal Brennereien in Scotland: in the year 1824 Alexander Reid got the fuel license. As it 1847 died took over its son Alexander the Destillerie. To its death the Brennerei went 1858 at James Shearer praised and James Davidson these 10 years later to 1868 at James Stuart, to which at that time also the Glen Spey Destillerie belonged, sold. 1882 were acquired the Brennerei by Roderick Kemp, whose family brought the enterprise into the following 100 years to the bloom. Starting from 1965 the number of the Brennbalsen was increased clearly: 1965 of six on 12, 1974 on 18 and 1975 on 21. 1996 acquired the Highland Distillers Ltd., to which at that time also Bunnahabhain, Glenrothes and Highland park belonged and those was bought for its part 1999 of the Edrington Group, the Brennerei.
Always The Macallan was desired with dazzling masters, who still use him as a character-coining/shaping point component in its Blended whisky. As single painting whisky in bottles it stepped the world-famous Whisky region for the first time in the 60's into feature, first however only into Speyside. Only 1980 were decided to bring The Macallan in larger framework within Great Britain on the market - the beginning of an international success history.
The Destillerie has two Maischbottiche (mash doing) (together 12,6t) and 22 fermenting tanks (wash-out backs) (together 770.000l). One distills in seven wash-out stills (for each 12.000l) and 14 spirit stills (for each 4.000l).
