The Gambia Telecommunications Company Ltd., also briefly Gamtel mentioned, is the halfnational Telefongesellschaft with a Mobilfunktocher in the westAfrican State of the Gambia.

The state holds up-to-date 99 per cent, the remaining portions keeps those national to the Gambia for Insurance company (GNIC). The capital stock of 60 million Dalasi (D) (approximately 2.4 million euro) is divided in shares from 10-D-Nennwert. History

The Gamtel was created 1984 in the context of an assumption of the former Cable & Wireless PLC (the Gambia) and together the Gambian telecommunications Ministry with following restructuring, with support of the European union (European Union). Outdated Strowger from the 50's was replaced by a digital exchange technique - at this time still similar choice systems were in the use at the German Telekom. Thus the Gambia already had before the German Telekom digital technology. The European Union donated among other things 2000 telephones for establishment. The establishment of the German enterprise Detecon was accompanied.

Subsidiary company

The Gambia Telecommunications Cellular Company Ltd., briefly Gamcell, is the Mobilfunktocher of the Gamtel and 2001 was based. For the broad market Prepaidkarten is sold and for enterprises and/or businessmen of portable radio contracts. The dispatch of Short Message service (SMS) is also possible in the GSM net (GSM 900 net).

Mains supply is ensured in the Greater Banjul AREA to 90 per cent and to 45 per cent in the remaining regions. Those approximately 135 employees gain 273 million D and 82 million D profit before taxes.
