The Federal Post Office (Federal Post Office) was created 1947 as a successor of the realm post office. Between 1947 and 1950 the enterprise was called German post office. Until 1989 the Federal Post Office was a national unit enterprise, and/or an authority. Structure and arrangement

After the dissolution of the Ministry first the adjustment authority for telecommunications and post office (move TP, now federal net agency), created under the name Federal Office for post office and telecommunications (BAPT), took over the tasks of the central authorities starting from 1 January 1998. Tasks of the Ministry and some tasks of the central authorities turned into on the Federal Ministry of finances. Some tasks in the telecommunication system for those the telecommunication engineering central office was responsible (particularly within the range of the bad radio) turned into on the Federal Ministry of the inside.
