The Thales Group is an international enterprise with emphasis in armament, electronics, aviation and information technology. 2000 ago the enterprise was well-known as Thomson CSF.

Development

1998 was folded up the arms sections by Alcatel, Dassault and Thomson CSF to a new enterprise, whereby France held still the majority portions at this enterprise. From 1998 to 2000 the French state reduced its portions, and in June 2000 Thomson CSF transferred the English Racal Electronics, one of the largest English electronics companies. Finally end called itself 2000 Thomson CSF then in Thales over. 2002 creates the Thales Group and the French ship farmer DCN Schiffsbau Joint the venture Armaris. 2003 won Thales UK together with BAE of system the advertisement for the building of the new aircraft carriers of the Queen Elizabeth class for the British Royal Navy.

By the additional purchase of some arms sections of AEG, Siemens, ABB, bombard and others in passed the years the company meanwhile global so mentioned a Player within the ranges air and space travel, information technology and particularly in the armaments industry became. The offer reaches from air defense rockets over frigates up to the Mirage combat aircraft.

According to a report of the French daily paper "Le Monde "from 26 September 2005 Michel Josserand, a former president of the Thales daughter THEC (Thales Engineering&Consulting) accused, to the company to practice a system of the bribery. Thales denies however and Josserand because of slandering indicated.

The German ex four-star general Klaus Naumann closed star according to the magazine ""(from 5 January 2006) after end of its military career an advisor contract with Thales and a seat in the Thales supervisory board. Loud ""it has star thereby - which denies Naumann - against "§20a it offends to national service act which plans that soldiers may be active at the earliest five years after service end in the economy.

In the year 2003 the company employed world-wide approx. 57,000 coworkers (2001: 62.000), of it approx. 55 per cent in France. In Germany Thales has more than 3500 coworkers on over 25 Standorten.Die turnover figures to place itself as follows:

• Conversion 2003:10,6 billion euro (2001: 10.3 billion euro), of it
  • 6.6 billion euro (62%) by armament
  • 1.8 billion euro (17%) by aviation
  • 2.1 billion euro (20%) by IT&S
