Teng Bunma (geb. in Suphan Buri/Thailand) is considered as one of the richest (and in the opinion of observers also scruples-loosest) businessmen in Kambodscha.
Kambodschas wealth concentrates in the hands of fewer politicians, military and businessmen. The relations between politics and "Big Business "is close. Among the richest ones in the country ranks Teng Bunma, which is to have boasted among other things the coup d'etat of Prime Minister Hun Sen 1997 to have financed.
After the fall of the red Khmer 1979 was Teng Bunma of one of the first Thai large investors in Kambodscha. He became a first president of the kambodschanischen Chamber of Commerce in Phnom Penh - his successor is Sok Kong of SOKIMEX. Teng Bunma is among other things owner of the luxury hotel "Intercontinental "in Phnom Penh and from "Rasmei Kampuchea ", the present-strongest newspaper of the country. Its son operates together with the red Khmer functionary Ieng Sary the Casino "Caesar international "in Pailin.
1996 published those far Eastern Economic Review (FEER) an article of the US journalist Nate Thayer over Kambodscha as transit country for drug smuggling ("Medellin on the Mekong "). Therein Teng Bunma was called Profiteur of the drug trade. The publication arranged Bunma to complain against Nate Thayer and the FEER.
Thailand issued a warrant of arrest in June 1998 against Teng Bunma because of fraud. Police determinations took place also in Hong Kong: there Bunma had submitted a falsified passport for the registration of its enterprise "to Thai Boon Roong ". For years Bunma besides the entry into the USA is refused, because he is led there on the list suspect drug dealer.
