The tariff border control decoration was an honor, which could be lent officials of the tariff border control between 1939 and 1945.

Prehistory

In the year 1938 the tariff border control (ZGS) at occupations of Austria and the Sudetenlandes participated. In the respective border sections often only few hours before the invasion alarmed, were fulfilled all tasks, homeland henceforth an employment and a structure often lasting for weeks were locally completed by tariff structures. During other safety organs such as armed forces, police, SS, etc. their member own earnings/service honors to lend could not, had the ZGS anything comparable. This led to a certain detuning within the realm financial administration.

Donation

On 17 February 1939 Hitler upon the request of the realm Treasury of the donation of the tariff border control decoration agreed. The publication of donation, statute and implementation regulation took place on 20 April 1939 in the realm law gazette. The internal regulations of the realm financial administration became however only in June, and/or November 1939 issue.

The decoration consisted of bronze. On the front the national emblem was set in, on the back stood in a Akanthuskranz the inscription "for faithful services in the tariff border control" of an upward open Akanthuskranz. It was carried on the left chest side at a grain-flower-blue volume, on which the national emblem set in by an upward open Akanthuskranz was eingestickt. There was only one award stage.

Award conditions

The donation was justified on the part of the realm financial administration with the employment of the ZGS during the integration of the areas specified above. The award nevertheless depended usually purely on the service and could take place only to officials. Even if the ZGS already before outbreak of war by the majority of emergency service-obligated auxiliary workers (auxiliary border employees - HiGa's) consisted, this circle of acquaintances remained obviously excluded from the award.

The decoration could be lent on:

• An official in the higher service after four years old border service
• An official in the elevated service after four years old border service
• An official in the middle service - supplying candidate after four years old border service
• An official in the middle service - civil candidate after eight-year old border service
• Worked satisfactorily editor of affairs of tariff border control
• Men, who rendered special services around the tariff border control

Receivers could become however only the officials of the border supervision places, Bezirkszollkommissariate and in the general customs offices and in the border papers of the upper financial presidencies with border affairs concerned officials. After the connection of Austria and Danzig the appropriate office hours were taken into account, yet the decoration could be lent only after at least one year's service in the ZGS of the realm Treasury.

Awards

The exact number of awards is not well-known, might go however into the thousands. The first awards were probably only made in November 1939, as which in the arrest of the Hitler assassin took part George Elser Waldemar Zipperer, Xaver Rieger and their two superiors the honor received.

That the decoration may be carried in accordance with the law over titles, medals and decorations from 26 July 1957 without swastika.
