A tap marks a abgesetzes end of an axle, which can take up a camp and as center of a rotating motion serves in mechanical engineering. Such taps are manufactured by turning of the raw axle off and are as far as possible standardized in their dimensions. At the end of a wave against it the tap does not take up a camp, but a wave hub connection as for example a parallel key. The groove necessary for it is in-milled in the taps turned off before; the length, width and depth of the groove are standardized just like the associated tap.

Depending upon need and/or organization of the wood joint the tap in different variants can be implemented.
