Stuckateur, (in former times Stukkateur) (ital. - frz.) also Gipser (old job title in South Germany) is the job title for one, in the interior fittings and at fronts transacts building craftsmen. Stuckateure clean walls in the interior and external area, make and suspended intermediate covers of gypsum plasterboards (dry construction). A further important field of work is the thermal insulation of buildings, e.g. with heat damming compound systems.
The Stuckateur provides and processes stucco. Providing stucco requires much experience and intuitive feeling. Stucco parts can be provided both in the workshop prefabricated and locally. The connection of classical stucco techniques with modern coating techniques and modern Design offers today for each construction measure suitable remark possibilities. The training as the Stuckateur lasts 3 years, and consists of: Theory in the enterprise, and vocational school.
In Renaissance, baroque and classicism Stuckateure appear as important Gestalter of predominantly church or representative lay interiors. They are considered likewise as artists like the painters and sculptors, with whom they arrange these areas. Particularly in the Rococo succeed a unique fusion of winding and Deckenfresken, stucco and architecture. The brand name of the epoch is a stuckiertes ornamentation: the Rocaille. Frequently the Stuckateure is at the same time architects, painters or (stucco) sculptors. Among the most important Stuckateuren of the history of art the brothers Asam, the brothers Carpenter, rank Joseph Schmuzer and the artist families Carlone and Feuchtmayer. After particularly successful Stuckateuren whole schools were designated like the Wessobrunner school.
