History

1950 to 1979

In this phase SEAT was aligned as state enterprises to a large extent to the domestic, market protected into the 1970er years inside by high import duties, on which it was unquestioned market leader. Due to this adjustment and the license editions of Fiats the export trade to beginning of the 1970er was insignificant years, before first exports were transacted particularly into the Benelux countries and to Finland.

Seat copied vehicles of Fiats in these decades almost exclusively under license. The Markenlogo was shared to that by Fiats. The competitors on the domestic market were all together licensees and/or Joint ventures of foreign enterprises, among other things from Renault (in Spain Fasa), Landrover (in Spain Santana). The reason for this lay in the fact that during the Franco time enormous tariffs and import quotas made the import of foreign new vehicles almost impossible and the Spanish market for independently developed lines would have been very small. Most popular model of Seat during this epoch was the Seat 600, affectionately Seiscientos or in the Catalan Siscents mentioned. Nearly all Spanish taxis in that time were Seat 1500, briefly Milquinientos mentioned.

At the same time it comes to the discord with Fiats as the Seat Ronda, which was identically constructed the Fiat Ritmo, when independent Spanish model was defined. Co-operation with Volkswagen develops to 75% a participation. The SEAT Ibiza is introduced and the foundation-stones in Martorell is put.
