Symlink.ch is a Nachrichtenticker for German-speaking computeraffine people ("Geeks", "Nerds"). It orients itself thereby at the format of the American web page Slashdot, which represents a mixture from Newsticker and Web logs.

Symlink.ch is by an idea in the LUGS - which Linux user Group Switzerland - developed. After a short test phase, the web page was switched officially on 1 December 2000 on-line and thus the Symlinken was opened, how it means in the first article. The emphasis of the contributions is to the influence of the policy on the IT, data security, the Geek culture, and everything approximately on computer topics from the German-speaking countries, around the topic open SOURCE.

As its model Slashdot is not Symlink.ch Newsticker in the traditional sense, with which the contributions and comments are provided exclusively by an editorship. The articles are submitted by the readers and published by a firm trunk at authors. Symlink.ch lives on the cooperation of the readers, their comments and their opinions. Regular readers have the possibility of becoming even authors.

The name is left, too German the short form of the English-language computer technical term symbolic linkage of file.
