A symbol for environmental protection marks products and services, which are more pollution free concerning individual characteristics within a product group than others. Symbols for environmental protection are voluntary and either by federations or independent testing institutes are assigned.

Different symbols for environmental protection

• The blue angel is assigned since 1977. It was that world-wide first symbols for environmental protection.
• The euro flower exists since 1992. The assignment takes place by means of national places, for Germany via German Institut for quality assurance and marking (ral).
