The Sudanese Pound (SDP) was to 1991 the currency of the Sudan and is this very day valid currency in the autonomous region the south Sudan to the changes to the new Sudanese Pound is carried out.

History

The Sudanese Pound was introduced 1956 with the establishment of the Republic of the Sudan and the independence from Egypt. A Sudanese Pound was divided thereby into 100 Piaster.

Due to the economic crisis 1991 the Sudanese dinar was introduced. A Sudanese dinar was exchanged thereby for 10 sudanische Pound. The autonomous region the south Sudan, which was at this time still in the fight with the centre government in Khartum, rejected however the currency conversion and maintained the Sudanese Pound as currency.

Quotations take place also today still frequently in Pound, to be settled these however in dinar.

To the course of the peace agreement between the south Sudan and the government in Khartum in the year 2005 a new currency beside that is to be introduced Sudanese dinar in the south Sudan, the new Sudanese Pound. This is to replace that this very day as currencies in the south Sudan used Sudanese Pound.
