The Subaru Rex was inserted 1972 first as three-door Kleinstwagen der'K car' - class into Japan. The model designation Rex means on latin king. The car was equipped with a 360cm large air-cooled tail engine and rear propulsion. Predecessor was the R-2.

After in the course of the 1970er years larger engines up to 600cm were after-pushed and a 1981 a model change took place. This car was sold as Subaru 600 and Subaru mini jumbo jet in Europe and had from now at front engine, water cooling and front wheel drive. For Australia the name Subaru Sherpa was selected. The Design of the 81er of model offered already once a Vorgeschmack on the 1984 introduced Justy.

In the year 1986 takes place a further model change, which 1989 a Facelift follows. Successor of the Subaru Rex became 1992 the Vivio. The Subaru Rex of 1981 is produced however this very day as Yunque GHK 7060 and/or as Yunque GHK 7071 in China.
